The "Compression Fastener Assembly" is a stack, consisting of a corrosion resistant
zinc flat washer, a very unique compression spring, and a second zinc flat washer.
This stack is secured in a plastic shrink wrap to provide a single component.
This assembly slides over the shank of a spike or lag screw, which is inserted into a pre-drilled
pilot and countersink hole.
THE OLD WAYIn the old days when you wanted to build a boat you would take your timber and soak it in water then you would make a template that was CURVED and clamp your timber to the template slowly you would increase the clamping force while keeping the wood wet until it conforms to the template .Then it would be allowed to dry. When it is dry, the clamps are removed, the timber RETAINS THE SHAPE of the template ........CURVED ! THE NEW WAYYour logs have moisture in them the concept is the log is going to be clamped FLAT with COMPRESSION-PAK fasteners so when the logs completely dry out (usually after 2 heating seasons) the log RETAINS THE SHAPE.......FLAT... not warped or bowed reducing your water infiltration, amount of calking ,easy access for insects and "R" value of the log wall Having been fastened down solid, the force of the "Compression Fastener Assembly" holds the log flat under constant downward force and allowed to dry naturally. Unlike conventional spiking, lagging or through bolting, that work when first installed until the log shrinks, settles or compresses. Then contact between the log and the head of the fastener is broken. Allowing the log to twist or bow. Compression-Pak Company offers the only system available that creates it's own constant force! For lag, spike, and through bolt systems. To compliment our system and simplify the pre-drilling process, Compression-Pak Company developed a new drill bit. The "Log Home Builder's Drill Bit" will drill both the pilot and countersink holes at the same time! Industrial quality with professional results! The objective of Compression-Pak Company is to provide the log home industry with a method of needed construction not previously available. Eliminating this gap problem is of extreme importance in obtaining the long term, high quality log home that your customers expect and demand. With the high cost of the new expanding foam type gaskets, along with the continued caulking of gaps, the expense of "Compression Fastener Assemblies" toward eliminating these gaps is fractional! To achieve all that's available from our construction method, we have printed and include with all shipments, a detailed instruction sheet that clearly explains proper drilling and spiking procedures, along with a list of recommended log building practices to assure that allowances for shrinkage and settling are made. With our system and proper execution of these procedures, the log structure will settle as it was originally intended to. Hence, an extremely tight log home!
